Porsche Panamera [hideous edition] – Las Vegas, NV

One of our readers spotted this utterly obnoxious Porsche Panamera on a recent trip to Sin City and all I can say is what a waste. Each to their own and everything but I’m not sure this is what the boys from Porsche had in mind when they dropped the brand’s first dour door saloon on us. I mean the car has been on the market for 10 minutes and people are already coming up with countless ways to ruin it. Yes, we get it, carbon fiber is very in right now. But that doesn’t mean you have to coat half the body in it. Even the damn headlights have a carbon trim. With all the boy racer wings, air damns and diffusers installed to cut the wind, I wonder if this thing will ever even participate in a track day. Feel free to speculate as to the owner’s intentions after the jump.

Porsche Mashup (Slantnose vs Cayman) – Meatpacking District, NYC

I headed down to the utterly trendy Meatpacking District for dinner at the Standard Grill and was immediately distracted by all the choice rides strewn about Washington Street. First I peeped this tricked out Cayman S, complete with bitchin Sarona body kit, black wheels, tints and frosty Carrara White coloring. The stark white silhouette, in contrast with dark wheels, looked as if it was hovering above the asphalt. The owner gave me nasty looks from the nearby table he was sitting at as I snapped away at his baby. Maybe he thought I was an SEC auditor or something? Next up was this well-kept 911 Turbo Slantnose (aka Flatnose), “Flachbau” in German, parked around the corner. I was floored not least because of how rare these specially bodied 911s are, but because of how exotic it still manages to look more than 20 years later. Just another night in the Meatpacking District right?

Porsche 911 Carrera S – Hollywood Blvd., LA

This 993-series Carrera S (1997 – 1998) looks good behind bars on Hollywood boulevard. With its rear drive set up and naturally aspirated engine, the Carrera S is essentially a standard Carrera save for slightly increased power, a lowered suspension and that gloriously wide booty in the rear (the wider rear fenders were compensated with wheel spacers). All the Turbo look for a lot less coin. Seen here underneath a beautiful LA sunset, the last of the air cooled 911s looks prime for a weekend jaunt down Mulholland.

The Germans have a way with aluminum. Lost Cause – Lincoln Blvd, Venice CA

So my girlfriend sees this rust bucket Porsche in a gravel parking lot on her way down Lincoln one day. She tells me about it, and instantly I’m imagining a long hood version of our buddy Mike Burroughs’ mean, rusty E28. I call Jim Bauer and, within milliseconds, he’s ready to make an offer. He’s got visions of a non-operating early body (69-73) to restore, or at least scrap body panels from. Both of our dreams were smashed upon arrival at the gravel lot. No motor, hence the SUV ride height. The interior looks like a mini garbage dump. And there’s just enough body damage and terminal rust on each panel to make it not worth the effort. But somehow, especially sitting in between a Jeep Cherokee and Honda Fit, this Porsche is still a gorgeous sight.

Porsche 959 – Hopkins Ave, Aspen (CO)

One of our loyal readers spotted this 197 MPH supercar from Stuttgart rolling down the 300 Block of Hopkins Ave in downtown Aspen. A fitting venue for such a rare, valuable piece of equipment, the 959 (1987-1989) remains one of the rarest, most advanced, ferociously fast supercars ever made. Its performance credentials, like a 3.7 second dash to 60 mph, remain disgustingly impressive to this day. This one looks to be pretty legit from where we sit, but please weigh in with replica car theories below.

Boss Mustangs – 11th Ave & 28th Street, NYC

Say hello to rare and even rarer. The celebrated Boss Mustang variants, 302 (left) and 429 (right), were spotted in front of posh Manhattan Motor Cars on 11th Ave by loyal Man on the Move reader and contributing photographer Dave Pinter. Dave has stumbled onto some pretty cool stuff before but these Boss twins are definitely up there. Hell, Ford only built 1,358 examples of the 429, making it among the rarest and most sought after Mustangs on the planet. Just to give you an idea of the relative worth I am referring to, a pair just like this went for $530K in a 2007 Scottsdale auction. I called over to the dealership to verify that we weren’t looking at reproductions and they assured me the cars are completely original and available for purchase. Anyone care to invest in some American muscle?

Porsche 911 Carrera C4S – Goldsmith Inlet, Peconic NY

We all lust after the latest and greatest in automotive exotica – Ferraris, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis and whatever other hand built, high speed sex machines you can spout off. We read fervishly about them, drool over pictures in magazines and enviously watch Jeremy Clarkson beat the shit out of them on Top Gear’s private test track. The reality is that they are quite rare and prohibitively expensive for those of us who don’t hedge funds for a living. That is why the everyday automotive heroes are the ones who appreciate what they have, not what they don’t. Our loyal reader Steve falls into this camp. The 51 year old car nut is every bit as in love with his ’97 Glacier White on blue C4s as he was the day he brought it home. Can you really blame him?

Steve, who is all about early morning cruising without an agenda or destination in mind, captured these images at the picturesque Goldsmith Inlet on the North Fork on the Long Island Sound on a “beautiful dew kissed morning” last summer.

Porsche Carrera – Robertson Blvd., Los Angeles

We all know that feeling. You suddenly notice the girl next door. You finally pay attention to what’s beautiful about that famous painting. On the radio, you hear an old song your dad used to sing along to in a whole new way. That thing you’ve experienced a million times suddenly becomes…something else. Because of the setting, because of who you happen to be at that moment, a familiar thing takes on a whole new life. The ordinary becomes extraordinary. That old Carrera has been parked there for months, but walking by today, it stood out. The lines looked sleeker and the fenders more brooding. The old familiar statue took a breath, and we took notice. No need for dates and codes, trim levels or colors, we’ve all seen it a million times. Just another Carrera parked on the curb.

Porsche 912 – NW 23rd & Quimby, Portland

This pristine 912 is like on-the-go therapy to all the cold, wet pedestrians who pass by it. After all, there’s nothing happier than a Tangerine Porsche on a grey cloudy day. It’s like playing with puppies when you’re sad or swimming through Scrooge McDuck’s vault when you’re broke. Yes, I know the car won’t make the temperature any higher but it certainly cheers the place up.
