Porsche 911 Carrera S – Hollywood Blvd., LA

This 993-series Carrera S (1997 – 1998) looks good behind bars on Hollywood boulevard. With its rear drive set up and naturally aspirated engine, the Carrera S is essentially a standard Carrera save for slightly increased power, a lowered suspension and that gloriously wide booty in the rear (the wider rear fenders were compensated with wheel spacers). All the Turbo look for a lot less coin. Seen here underneath a beautiful LA sunset, the last of the air cooled 911s looks prime for a weekend jaunt down Mulholland.

Soccer moms and squared-off backs? PSSSHHHH. Before they made the safest cars on the planet, they made cars good enough for second rate James Bond actor’s wannabe James Bond roles. Yeah, I said it. Understated yet classy, refined yet tough. Almost makes me wish our Swedish friends would jump on the American throwback train, dip into their archives and design a heavily inspired 2013 1800.

Diesel Mercedes Duo – Palms Blvd, Venice CA

These diesel luxo tanks (W126 300SD and W123 300D) may appear unremarkable at first blush but subtle charm is actually their most endearing quality. The perfect balance of utilitarianism and refinement, these range toppers feel solid, secure and planted to the road. Power and agility, not so much. But so what – I’d drive my (future) family across the states in one and feel equally as comfortable pulling up to the valet at Avalon Beverly Hills as I would cruising down a bumpy dirt road with a full load at speed. Sure, a Civic could smoke you, but as he blows by, take a gander at the indestructible MB-Tex upholstery, beautifully designed center console, and 500k odometer reading. You’ll soon realize you’ve already won.

The gear heads at Blackhorse Motorsports are coo coo for Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Seriously, if Weber carburetors and hand-built 12 cylinder engines were a drug, these guys would be in the running for an appearance on A&E’s hit show Intervention. Anyone who has walked by their massive showroom on La Cienega knows this first hand as the place is brimming with valuable and rare Italian exotics. Good thing for you, Blackhorse is also a huge Man on the Move fan – the fellas submitted some choice pictures from their in-house collection. This black F550 Maranello, like most any other Ferrari or proper sports car, could not look more at home on the Mulholland twisties. More drooling after the jump…

We all know that feeling. You suddenly notice the girl next door. You finally pay attention to what’s beautiful about that famous painting. On the radio, you hear an old song your dad used to sing along to in a whole new way. That thing you’ve experienced a million times suddenly becomes…something else. Because of the setting, because of who you happen to be at that moment, a familiar thing takes on a whole new life. The ordinary becomes extraordinary. That old Carrera has been parked there for months, but walking by today, it stood out. The lines looked sleeker and the fenders more brooding. The old familiar statue took a breath, and we took notice. No need for dates and codes, trim levels or colors, we’ve all seen it a million times. Just another Carrera parked on the curb.

Chevy Camaro Z28 Type LT – Holt Ave, Los Angeles

The dented rear fender from prom night ’77. The cigarette burn from a drunken night at the disco on new years ’80. The scratch down the passenger door from shopping kart bowling on a warm night in ’83. The stories these survivors tell through their scars and battle wounds get silenced during a restoration, and the soft whispers of debauchery fall on deaf ears under a glossy coat of candy. As important as looking the look, is walking the walk, and these original beaters do just that. They don’t need to boast of crate motor swaps and braided chrome hoses to prove their worth. They don’t need a binder filled with dates and numbers resting on the backseat to assure their pedigree. No, their history is written in their bubbles and scratches, their dents and their dings. It’s those imperfections that make these cars truly perfect and one of a kind.

Mercedes 220D – Holt Avenue, Los Angeles

A little wink to those who get it – a beacon in a never-ending sea of mediocrity. The nondescript cars on either side of this diesel Merc act as the foil to its diamond-in-the-rough nonchalance. This car isn’t screaming to be seen. It’s not striking a pose on Melrose. It’s tucked away on a quiet street allowing the Gods to shine down their praise and hear it whisper, “yo, seriously… I’m rad. Keep driving.”

WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH CRAFT AND WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR IT?

Nobody was doing a workwear presentation properly in my mind. It was all too costumey. Pete and I wanted to do a Japanese-Americana workwear aesthetic but make it look real, and wearable.

WHAT’S THE STORY WITH SCORING THE TRUCK? YOU FIND IT IN A BARN? HOLD SOMEONE UP FOR IT?

I acquired the truck from a former employer. It had been the shop truck for a denim brand, to remain nameless….

IF YOU WEREN’T DRIVING THIS YOU’D BE DRIVING…

I’d love an early 50′s coupe, or an early 60′s Cadillac.

YOU HAVE ANY PLANS FOR THE TRUCK, OR ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH IT? I KNOW I AM.

In the immediate future I’m planning on having the rims shot flat maroon, and new piecrust whitewalls put on it. I’d love to put a little stereo in it too, but would hide everything in the glove box etc. . . I really like the interior looking completely stock.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT LA AND CARS? WHAT DO YOU LOVE? HATE?

I moved out to California 5 years ago from the East Coast. I was amazed to see how many classic cars are out on the street out here! Its just something you don’t see nearly as much in the nastier climate of New England. I had always been a lover of classic cars, but moving to LA really made my dream of being an owner much closer at hand. I’m like a kid in a candy store in L.A. for car scenes: The lowriders, the hot rods, the muscle cars…. there’s just so much of it available to us. We’re really spoiled.

IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE TO SOMEONE THAT’S NEVER SEEN YOU BEFORE, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
