Jaguar was good enough to have us out to Monticello Motor Club to sample their new and improved line of 2010 “R” spec models. Not only does that “R” stand for racing but we figured that the track was an ideal setting to properly experience 510 HP and one of the more impressive suspension systems we have encountered lately. Sure, we drove around the beautiful Monticello back country to get a sense of real world road manners, which were silky smooth and bank vault quiet, but nothing beats punching the gas on a long straight away or holding on for dear life during a physics-defying powerslide.

Savor the classic Jaguar flavor while you still can. The storied brand is nearing completion on a major design overhaul that started with the second generation XK-series, continued with an all new XF sedan (replaced S-type) and will conclude with a completely revamped XJ flagship. We can all appreciate the nostalgic British lines but the sales needle doesn’t lie.

XF replaced S-Type in the Jag line-up last year. Along with the current generation XK, this new sedan literally dragged Jaguar into thoroughly modern design. S-Type was certainly charming and attractive in a London gentleman sort of way, but people simply weren’t considering it when in the market for a mid size luxury sedan. The LED lighting effects seen here really catch the eye.
