Porsche 911 Targa 4 – Mercer Street, NYC

June 25th, 2009 by Ian

911-targaWe all love Targas for the non committal reverence they pay to open top motoring. The best of both worlds indeed, a handsome coupe when you need it and the wind rushing through your hair when you don’t.

911 Turbo – Soho, NYC

After more than 80 years, the cars that bear the Porsche name still manage to give us goose-bumps every time. We spotted this “meteor metallic grey” 997 series (2005-present) trying to blend into the cobblestones of Soho. But it’s pretty hard to miss those bright red brake calipers peeking out from behind 19″ Turbo wheels.  And with a sub 4-second 0-60 time, this guy will be in Tribeca before you can blink.

Porsche 356 SC – West Village NYC

February 9th, 2009 by Ian

The 356, of which there were 3 generations (A,B,C), was the car that put Porsche on the map. It was also the precursor to the iconic 911-series that we have all come to know and love over the last half century. Unless the good doctor has applied fake badges to this example, which would be totally lame, it is a 356C (1963-65/66) with the 95HP “SC” engine option. That may not sound like many ponies, but that VW Beetle-derived 4-cylinder was the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche had ever produced. While you won’t win many drag races, this drop top will make sunny Sundays very enjoyable.
