Porsche Mashup (Slantnose vs Cayman) – Meatpacking District, NYC

May 7th, 2010 by Stu

I headed down to the utterly trendy Meatpacking District for dinner at the Standard Grill and was immediately distracted by all the choice rides strewn about Washington Street.  First I peeped this tricked out Cayman S, complete with bitchin Sarona body kit, black wheels, tints and frosty Carrara White coloring. The stark white silhouette, in contrast with dark wheels, looked as if it was hovering above the asphalt. The owner gave me nasty looks from the nearby table he was sitting at as I snapped away at his baby. Maybe he thought I was an SEC auditor or something? Next up was this well-kept 911 Turbo Slantnose (aka Flatnose), “Flachbau” in German, parked around the corner. I was floored not least because of how rare these specially bodied 911s are, but because of how exotic it still manages to look more than 20 years later. Just another night in the Meatpacking District right?

Toyota Land Cruiser – Washington Street, NYC

Land Cruiser1

This 60-series Land Cruiser may not be the plush people mover we see in Toyota showrooms today but it’s certainly a revolutionary leap away from the smaller, more simplistic rock jocks that preceded it. With that said, it’s interesting to note that we have come full circle with our utility vehicles – high windowed, truck-based road mammoths like this are out and sleek, car-based soft roaders are in. What will utility look like next?

2010 Audi A5 Cabriolet – Washington Street, NYC

side

We spotted this A5 drop top outside The Standard Hotel in Meatpacking and must say it looks every bit as classy as the coupe. The handsome convertible, which hit dealerships just this month, looks appropriately posed outside the ultra modern hotel that the NY Times called “…an architectural tour de force…”. A5 cabrio is an all new model for 2010 and replaces the decidedly less masculine A4 Cabrio in the line-up. Like its coupe sibling, the cabrio is available in front wheel drive with Audi’s venerable 2.0T four cylinder engine, making things more attainable than ever at $42,000 to start.

Pontiac Firebird Convertible – Washington Street, NYC

October 7th, 2009 by Ian

Firebird1

This gen 1 Firebird convertible looks good in plum crazy purple. Damn good actually. The car appears to be original, most evident by the rusted out front fascia, but the form-fitting top seems to have been replaced within the last few years.  Unfortunately we won’t be seeing any reincarnations of this Chevrolet Camaro platform mate, which debuted in 1967 alongside its GM sister vehicle.
