Walking around my hood looking for interesting cars is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. If you get sick of GT3s and SEL 6.9s and MG Midgets and Austin Minis, there’s always this elderly Ford truck (circa 1930) with handicap permit in the front and living quarters in the rear. Built Ford Tough takes on a whole new meaning when you see one of these ~ 80 year old workhorses still going strong.

There are a few Man on the Move rides that we have spotted more than once while walking the Isle of Manhattan. But this 1957 Chevy Model 3100 Pickup is positively everywhere. Uptown, downtown, east side, west side – I can’t seem to avoid the beautiful two-tone classic. Talk about an awesome daily driver, it’s great to see the owner gives this baby so much exercise.

Cabbing it to LaGuardia at 5am is never fun, but I wasn’t too bothered because what waited for me in Borrego Springs was a series of high speed desert romps and physics defying hill climbs in Ford’s all new F-150 SVT Raptor. SVT, or Special Vehicle Team, is Ford’s in-house performance division responsible for breathed-on models like Mustang Cobra, Mustang GT500, SVT Focus, SVT Contour and the exotic GT supercar. Raptor is their latest and greatest effort and follows in the tire tracks of Ford’s original performance truck, the SVT Lighting. But where the supercharged, 380 HP Lightning did a wonderful job of going like stink in a straight line, the Raptor was imagined to be the first high speed off-road performance truck offered by an automotive OEM.
