Ferrari 250 GTO (replica?) – 101 Freeway, Hollywood

December 1st, 2009 by Mike

250GTOon101

Considering that Ferrari only made thirty-nine 250 GTO cars, the odds are that this one I spotted on the freeway is a replica. The long-haired, mustached, t-shirt-wearing guy behind the wheel was no indication either. In LA, that description fits millionaires and homeless people alike.

1939 Indian Chief – Washington Blvd., LA

October 21st, 2009 by Nick

Indian2

So this is what they looked like when they actually rolled out of Springfield. This ’39 Injin is pure class, through and through. And no, that’s not some old rich guy riding it because his mechanic told him to get it out of the garage once a year, that’s a 24 year-old with perhaps more style than horsepower, whose other car is… well… this. But hey, this thing is purely for thundering around town looking for trouble and not dragging off greens with the rest of the Ruff Riders.

VW Beetle – Desbrosses Street, NYC

October 1st, 2009 by Ian

Beetle2

Punch buggy red – no punch backs! Ok now that’s out of the way we can proceed. This Type 1 Beetle snapped in the West Village is not nearly as old as it seems. Well the technology is downright geriatric but this baby was actually assembled with “new” parts in VW’s Puebla, Mexico plant in 2001. While the rest of the world had long since hung the Beetle jersey from the rafters, the Mexican market (particularly cab drivers) kept the icon alive until 2003 when the last ever new Beetle (# 21,529,464) rolled of the assembly line.

Moto Guzzi 1000S – West 23rd Street, NYC

September 29th, 2009 by Ian

Moto Guzzi 1

We spotted this ultra-rare Moto Guzzi 1000S on West 23rd in Chelsea. The striking green and black livery, which extends from the sheet metal all the way through to the V7 frame and swing arm, represented one of two color combos available (orange and black was the other) during the brief production run (‘89-’93) of just 1,360 units. Although this green hornet is aged the better part of 20 years, the design was considered retro at the time, paying homage to the ‘74 750S and ‘75 740S3 models.

Chevy SSR – West 39th Street, NYC

June 11th, 2009 by Stu

chevy-ssrWe spotted this Slingshot Yellow Chevy SSR laying low in a 39th street parking garage. Perhaps the owner is embarrassed that he/she purchased one of Time Magazine’s 50 worst cars of all time?

Ford GT – Avenue of Americas, NYC

June 9th, 2009 by Ian

ford-gtNeck snapping looks aside, exotic vehicle sightings are ultimately special for their infrequency. Ford only made about 4,000 of these thoroughly exotic GT supercars between 2003-2006 so it’s not everyday that we spot one parked on Ave of the Americas.
