Porsche Boxster Spyder – 1st Ave @ 55th Street, NYC

June 16th, 2010 by Stu

Sir Mix-A-Lot has nothing on this rump. The special edition Boxster, code name Spyder, is the latest rendition of the familiar mid engine ragtop from Stuttgart. The $61,200 Spyder is the subject of a rather flattering rear end treatment that pays homage to the hump-backed 550 Spyder popularized by none other than Mr. Cool himself, James Dean. Aside from the double bubble butt and rather primitive manual top, the Spyder is up 10 hp and down 176 pounds from sibling Boxster S (thanks largely to the removal of the automatic folding top). It also features a lower ride height and more aggressive suspension set up.

MG MGB Roadster – West 11th Street, NYC

January 14th, 2010 by Ian

MG-West 11th 1According to the all-knowing web god known as Wikipedia, MG made 523,836 of these little MGBs. Just as a point of reference, combined 2009 sales for Mazda, Volvo, Mini, Buick and Acura amounted to about that much (522,456). Long story short, these classic sports cars ain’t all that rare. Despite their abundance, Mark III models like this one are still pretty desirable (sans rubber bumpers of course). And shockingly safe thanks to MG’s early use of controlled crumple zones. Alfa Romeo Spider 1.8L Twin Spark – Mercer Street, NYC

As if legal immunity and ridiculous parking privileges weren’t enough, you can now add grey market importation to the list of cool shit Diplomats get away with in New York City.  We’re not sure if this sexy 916-series Spider lives at the Italian consulate or not but it sure does look purty basking in the Mercer Street sunshine. The sighting also makes us that much more excited for the brand’s long-awaited U.S. comeback tour.
