Land Rover Defender 110 Pick-Up – Worth Street, NYC

Defenders are pretty common in these parts. Price be damned, their pure, utilitarian form and unadulterated simplicity really does it for New Yorkers. This current generation (2007-present) 110 caught my eye because of its bright red paint and unique pick-up truck configuration. And while the flimsy canvas top does an awful job of actually covering cargo, it does lend a military feel to the truck – as if a group of machine gun-touting mercenaries are going to jump out at any moment.

1957 Chevy Model 3100 Pickup – W37th St & 5th Ave, NYC

There are a few Man on the Move rides that we have spotted more than once while walking the Isle of Manhattan. But this 1957 Chevy Model 3100 Pickup is positively everywhere. Uptown, downtown, east side, west side – I can’t seem to avoid the beautiful two-tone classic. Talk about an awesome daily driver, it’s great to see the owner gives this baby so much exercise.

Our pal Dave captured this handsome devil in Williamsburg. As far as vintage pick ups go, they don’t get a whole lot cooler than this. The rounded hood and wrap around windshield made this baby an instant classic. Click through for more pictures.

Chevrolet Apache 10 Stepside – Elizabeth Street, NYC

Yesterday Nick brought you a classic Chevy pickup with West Coast flavor. I respond today with this old workhorse keeping it real on Elizabeth Street in the Lower East Side. She ain’t as pretty as Bill Sack’s denim ’57 3100, but thanks in part to the charmingly crude respray – powder blue with white accents throughout – this baby has certainly aged better than the last Apache we spotted. And we dig the spare integrated into the stepside bed. Viva la vintage truck!

chevy-pick-up-1You’re looking at the Centaur of vintage Chevy pickups –  the torso of a ’57 and the waistline of a ’77. The rough and tumble work horse is akin to a Tonka truck, only in life-sized form. This is the kind of stuff we live for at ManOnTheMove – interesting rides and even more interesting owners.

It’s  also perhaps the most nicknamed auto on the planet, affectionately known by thousands of pet names like magic bus, Mircobus, hippie-mobile, Camper, Eurovan, Caravelle, Samba, Multivan, and Bully.
