New York International Auto Show: Sights & Sounds

New York International Auto Show: Sights & Sounds

It’s that magical time of year when layer upon layer of shapely sheet metal from all walks of life and countries of manufacture come together in beautiful car geek harmony on the floor of Jacob Javits Convention Center. That’s right, it’s auto show time. From Porsche’s all-new 2014 GT3 hotness to Rolls Royce’s also new GT horror, there were loads of notable debuts on hand [here's the full list]. Andy Warhol would have appreciated the pop-art-esq color palette a handful of manufacturers we working with…Audi had an R8 coupe finished in silky blue matte brilliance, Dodge went all out with an outrageously tangerine SRT Viper TA and Fiat dipped into the Mopar parts pin to put together a charmingly vintage pistachio color & accessory package on their pint-sized 500.

The show runs through April 7th in Manhattan.

Ford Auto Show Pre Party – Metropolitan Pavilion, NYC

April 22nd, 2011 by John

Ford used a live musical performance from Grammy-award-winning Train to celebrate the pre-autoshow unveiling of their 2013 Taurus large sedan in Manhattan earlier this week. The car is not all-new from the ground up but features some updated design cues, improved MPG ratings and an all new 4-cylinder eco-boost engine option to keep the feds at bay. We’re not party planners or anything, but Metropolitan Pavilion seemed like an odd venue for the event considering that Porsche was throwing a similar event right next door (see yesterday’s post).

We woud ordinarily open wide and yawn when thinking about grocery-getting sedans like Taurus, but this thing looks pretty good. Certainly more exciting to look at than an Accord or Camry from an everyday driver standpoint. Of particular interest is the SHO, the ultimate sleeper car, packing a hot new grille, updated 20 inch wheels and a carryover 365 HP Ecoboost V6. Ford says its the sportiest Taurus to ever bear the SHO name.

We’re inclined to agree.

NY Auto Show: East Side House Gala Preview

April 5th, 2010 by Stu

Charitable car enthusiasts were dressed to the nines at the East Side House NY Auto Show Preview Gala that took place on April 1st at Jacob K Javits Convention Center. The annual event, which includes cocktails, dinner and silent auction, afforded ticket holders a private walk around of the show floor before the massive crowds showed up. Take it from me, there is nothing cooler than taking in one of the world’s biggest auto shows with an ice cold beer in your hand. All proceeds went to the East Side House neighborhood college prep school Matt Haven Village Preparatory High School.

NY Auto Show: Nissan Juke – 1 Rockefeller Plaza, NYC

March 30th, 2010 by Stu

Nissan pulled the wraps off their all-new Juke in Manhattan tonight. The Rockefeller Plaza cameo coincides with Juke’s North American debut [world debut was in Geneva] scheduled to take place later this week at our very own New York International Auto Show. Love it or hate it, you have to give the mean little crossover points for being bold in its design and throwing some level of styling risk into the mix. Not just another homogeneous soft roader, Juke’s flared fenders jut out like angry nostrils and the integrated rear door handles make the 4-door’s profile almost coupe-like in appearance. Throw in a turbo four good for about 180hp and an AWD system that can shift torque from wheel to wheel and you’re in for big smiles around the twisties. Look for Juke at the Nissan display April 2-11 – it hits dealerships this Fall for about $20k.
