Pontiac Firebird – 4th Street, NYC

January 1st, 2010 by Ian

And you thought Lieutenant Bullitt was the only bad ass who could pull off a green muscle car. Well this Firebird is more of an emerald than dark Highland Green but let’s not split hairs. It seems New Yorkers have an affinity for Firebirds painted in bold colors.

1988 Saab 900 Aero – Bowery, NYC

December 18th, 2009 by Ian

As if Saab’s classic 900 Aero wasn’t racy enough already. It was after all the first Saab to sport the brand’s 160 hp 16-valve turbo mill. That might not sound like much next to today’s high powered sports cars but it was pretty inspired for the time. The owner, who claims to race this baby, might have gone a little bonkers with the mods – carbon fiber hood, massive rear wing, wrap around body kit and what seems to be some engine tweaks based on the extra breathing vents positioned ahead of the front fender. Seen here on Bowery, the artists were rushing to gut and redesign the interior in time for the show.

November 5th, 2009 by Ian

Apache 2

Yesterday Nick brought you a classic Chevy pickup with West Coast flavor. I respond today with this old workhorse keeping it real on Elizabeth Street in the Lower East Side. She ain’t as pretty as Bill Sack’s denim ’57 3100, but thanks in part to the charmingly crude respray – powder blue with white accents throughout – this baby has certainly aged better than the last Apache we spotted. And we dig the spare integrated into the stepside bed. Viva la vintage truck!
