1988 Saab 900 Aero – Bowery, NYC

As if Saab’s classic 900 Aero wasn’t racy enough already. It was after all the first Saab to sport the brand’s 160 hp 16-valve turbo mill. That might not sound like much next to today’s high powered sports cars but it was pretty inspired for the time. The owner, who claims to race this baby, might have gone a little bonkers with the mods – carbon fiber hood, massive rear wing, wrap around body kit and what seems to be some engine tweaks based on the extra breathing vents positioned ahead of the front fender. And considering that only 7,000 Aeros, also known as SPGs (Special Performance Group), were built and imported to North America, it seems almost wasteful to alter it so drastically. But who are we to judge – that’s why they call it personalization.

1968 Airstream Tradewind – Bowery Street, NYC

Anonymous Gallery will use this ‘68 Airstream as a rolling exhibit, or pop up gallery, at Art Basel 2009 in Miami this week. The annual event, which starts tomorrow, exhibits contemporary artists who have influenced popular culture, graphic design, fashion and the urban environment. Exhibition sites are located in the city’s Art Deco District, so this aluminium skinned camper from another era should fit right in amongst all the cool old buildings. Seen here on Bowery, the artists were rushing to gut and redesign the interior in time for the show.

1/2 of an Aston Martin DB9 Volante – Cooper Square Hotel, NYC

aston-martin-cross-sectionThe slate walkways, frosted glass facade and brushed metal framework of the new Cooper Square Hotel set the ideal modernist backdrop to display this slew of shiny new Aston Martins. The crowd was chic, the Martinis flowed and James Bond references were in full effect.
