Look closely and examine the interaction between the Ibis white Audi R8 and Chrysler 300 limousine pictured here, just where the mid town tunnels spills out into Manhattan. The best part is the dude in the limo, smiling for the camera as he passes off the bottle of bub to the people in the R8. Apparently bridge and tunnel people like to party.

Who says you have to ride a HOG to travel in packs? Apparently not this group of VW/Audi enthusiasts who took their Quattro-powered sleds Winter joyriding during the season’s inaugural snowfall.  Well the GTI doesn’t have Quattro but who’s counting. The utterly dreary skies, slick road surfaces and fresh snowfall came together nicely to form the backdrop for this brigade of grey and white rides. We spotted this A5 drop top outside The Standard Hotel in Meatpacking and must say it looks every bit as classy as the coupe. The handsome convertible, which hit dealerships just this month, looks appropriately posed outside the ultra modern hotel that the NY Times called “…an architectural tour de force…”. A5 cabrio is an all new model for 2010 and replaces the decidedly less masculine A4 Cabrio in the line-up. Like its coupe sibling, the cabrio is available in front wheel drive with Audi’s venerable 2.0T four cylinder engine, making things more attainable than ever at $42,000 to start.

Audi is sick and tired of people viewing them as Germany’s number 3 luxury brand and the thoroughly exotic R8 is evidence. The hand assembled, mid engine super coupe from Audi’s high performance quattro GmbH subsidiary is the brand’s unabashed halo model, creating excitement and shining the design spotlight on less costly lookers like the new-for-2008 A4 and and the dashingly handsome A5. We caught this NJ-based example, cloaked in Ice Silver Metallic with Apollo Silver slingblade, parked outside Dos Caminos on Park for late night empanadas.

Mercedes brought sexy back in 2004 when they introduced the seductive CLS sedan. The combination of sedan practicality and low profile design allowed Mercedes to take credit for the ‘four door coupe’ moniker. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery because similarly styled sedans from Audi, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Volkswagen have all reared their streamlined heads since CLS hit the streets. Unfortunately for the Florida-based owner of this white example parked on 9th avenue, the jaws of life took the term “chopped roofline” to new extremes. We don’t think this is what Mercedes had in mind.

Everyone knows that Audi’s volume (eh hem..entry level) model in the U.S. is the A4, so we can’t really blame the boys from Ingolstadt for restricting the current A3 to two variations from an extensive lineup that consists of eight engines and two body styles (3/5 door) in Germany. But we are still fans of this slick little A3 Sportback, which offers all the luxury niceties and above par fit/finish of models like A4/A6 albeit in a smaller, more efficient package that is perfectly suited for congested urban living. Alongside models like Mini Cooper S and Volvo C30, A3 sprinkles a bit of premium refinement to the responsible yet fun to drive hot hatch segment.
