2010 Veterans Day Parade – Fifth Ave., NYC

November 12th, 2010 by Ian

We caught this classic car brigade muscling its way up Fifth Avenue yesterday for the big Veterans Day Parade that has been rolling through our fair city since 1922. The striking fleet of vintage Detroit iron was piloted by a group of car-loving vets who proudly cruised down the Avenue as people cheered them on excitedly. Needless to say, people got a little pumped up and, as a result, there was plenty of tire chirping, engine revving, honking, and flag waving going on. It was really quite a sight.

Thanks for your service fellas!

1957 Chevy Model 3100 Pickup – W37th St & 5th Ave, NYC

March 18th, 2010 by Stu

There are a few Man on the Move rides that we have spotted more than once while walking the Isle of Manhattan. But this 1957 Chevy Model 3100 Pickup is positively everywhere. Uptown, downtown, east side, west side – I can’t seem to avoid the beautiful two-tone classic. Talk about an awesome daily driver, it’s great to see the owner gives this baby so much exercise.

Toyota Land Cruiser – Fifth Avenue, NYC

July 24th, 2009 by Ian

Land Cruiser 1This 60 Series Land Cruiser (gen 5 – 1980-1990) was designed with a soon-to-be-booming SUV market in mind. And, unless you consider a speed bump at the mall to be off-roading, these people were not exactly flogging these 4x4s around the trail. That means military-esq and bare bones (think FJ40) needed to morph into ruggedly handsome and civilized (A/C, electric windows, rear heater, etc).

Lamborghini Murcielago – 58th & 5th, NYC

June 6th, 2009 by Stu

lambo-murcielagoThe mods on this Pearl metallic yellow Murcielago have somehow managed to turn up the volume on an already hyper-exotic sports car.  The quad tailpipes nestled into the rear valence are the automotive equivalent of a gatling gun.

VW Phaeton – 5th Avenue, NYC

April 30th, 2009 by Stu

vw-phaeton-5th-ave-You’re looking at VW’s ill-fated attempt to compete against arch rivals Mercedes and BMW. Despite the economy car badge sitting prominently on the hood, the full size, hand assembled Phaeton is all luxury and easily crossed the $100,000 barrier when equipped with the optional W12 engine. It even shared a platform and manufacturing site with Bentley’s Continental Flying Spur sedan (VW owns Bentley). Americans were not convinced though and Phaeton was promptly taken off the U.S. market after 2 years of sluggish sales performance.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano – 5th Ave – NYC

April 28th, 2009 by Ian

This Rosso Corsa 599 was spotted turning onto 5th avenue one soggy afternoon. The nearly $303,000 flagship is named for its 12-cylinder’s displacement (5999 cc), Gran Turismo Berlinetta body style and Ferrari’s Fiorano Circuit test track. The driver won’t be able to use many of the 612 ponies amidst all the tourists and shoppers but gawking was certainly in top gear.
