Porsche 911T – Chelsea, Manhattan

April 3rd, 2012 by Stu

Our long time Man on the Move spotter Dave Pinter was moved by this ’72 911 T spotted in Chelsea. We can’t really blame him as this classic is in amazing shape considering its 40 years.

What is it about orange Porsches that gets people going? The extra loud hue runs contrary to the 911′s timeless, elegant  shape. It all coms together nicely somehow.

Garage Queens: Studebaker Avanti R2 – East 44th Street, NYC

March 26th, 2012 by Stu

Bringing sexy back from South Bend Indiana, I spotted this ultra rare Studebaker Avanti laying low in a Murray Hill garage on 44th Street. Studebaker made fewer than 5,000 of these racy Avanti sport coupes between June of ’62 and December of ’63. Why so rare? Mostly because Studebaker was slow to deliver initial orders due to production issues with the Chevy Corvette-like fiberglass body, which resulted in owners defecting to Corvette. This beautifully maintained merlot example sports the Paxton supercharged engine option, known as R2, making it among the rarest of the bunch.

It’s a damn shame these slippery American coupes never got the chance to take off. It would have been interesting to give Corvette a fiber glass-bodied peer to make things more interesting for enthusiasts.

Man on the Move Goes to Austin – Sights & Sounds @SXSW

March 16th, 2012 by Stu

The streets of downtown Austin are packed to the brim with festival goers. Film buffs, tech geeks and music fans abound, the city’s unique auto culture still manages to shine through the nearly 2M people who will pass through town during the course of SXSW. Among the interesting finds, a cherry red chopper in a trailer park, a home grown Ford hot rod and some dude riding a donkey to work.

Ford SVT Raptor 6.2L – East 54th Street, NYC

March 12th, 2012 by Stu

Most people would walk by this jacked up F-150 and dismiss it as yet another hulking pickup truck hogging precious Manhattan parking spaces. I can’t really argue with the hulking part but, to be clear, this isn’t just any F-150. The Raptor is Ford’s high speed off roader, essentially a detuned version of a Baja 1000 Pre-Runner, developed by the company’s SVT [Special Vehicle Team] performance division. Aside from the 6.2L 411 HP V8 lurking under hood, the Raptor also features uber advanced Fox racing bypass shocks that offer silly levels of suspension travel capable of resisting bottom out in the challenging desert terrain thanks to position-sensitive dampening. If you recall, Man on the Move was invited to Anza Borrego to drive this baby when it first hit the market in 2009. I recall one of the Fox engineers telling me the oil viscosity was akin to what’s used in a fighter jet. Pretty freekin cool.

I wonder how this baby fares against NYC potholes

BMW 2002 – Water Street, Brooklyn

March 8th, 2012 by Stu

BMW’s iconic 2002 is easily one of our most photographed subjects. The classic coupe’s powerful design manages to get better looking not only with age but dents and rust patina as well. This example, spotted on Water Street in Dumbo, could definitely use some TLC. The twin kidney grille, for instance, looks as if an anvil fell on it.

Good condition, bad condition…it’s Brooklyn sheik.

We’ve run into these time warps before and they never cease to amaze and excite NYC street goers. This time around, the vintage car take over was a part of the Cohen Brother’s latest and greatest movie Inside Llewyn Davis.

Thanks for the snaps Ilya…

Mystery Truck: RT80 – Salt Lake City, Utah

February 25th, 2012 by Stu

Spotted this unknown vintage military tractor trailer on I-80 outside of Salt Lake. Other than being a pretty cool rig, it’s also interesting to note how much the breed of truck has grown over the years.

Anyone know the make and model? There’s a super cool Man on the Move t-shirt with your name on it if you can name that rig.

Ferrari 430 Coupe – Newbury Street, Boston

February 22nd, 2012 by Stu

Who could miss this menacing 430 Coupe parked curbside on Newbury Street in downtown Boston. The owner, a proprietor of Newton-based AVI Audio Visual Installations, proudly displays  his custom audio shop logo on the beautiful looking glass sitting atop the Ferrari’s mid-mounted V8. Pretty good advertising don’t you think?

Shortly after spotting this Italian stalion, a bright orange Lotus Elise roared by in dramatic fashion. A pretty good day overall.

Big Rigs Invade Soho – Prince Street, NYC

February 22nd, 2012 by Stu

Have you ever run into one of those massive crane rigs that routinely hoist ginormous building materials 30 or 40 stories into the air in dense urban areas? It’s quite a spectacle and construction workers often stop pedestrian traffic while the crane is operating to avoid falling objects from landing on top of the heads of unsuspecting tourists. Ever wonder how massive cranes like this get transported to the cobblestone-laden, utterly narrow streets of SoHo of all places? You’re looking at how. Good old fashioned muscle from names like Mack and International.

It doesn’t get a lot tougher than this. I get memories of Stallone in Over the Top just looking at these things.

Chevy C/10 Pick Up – Monmouth Beach, New Jersey

February 20th, 2012 by Stu

Looking at this beautifully maintained, two-tone Chevy C/K pick up, spotted in Monmouth Beach by one of our Man on the Move faithful, kinda makes me want to dress head to toe in denim and open up a ranch somewhere. I guess you can call that powerful design.

Thanks for the awesome find Devrin.
