Studebaker Avanti – Los Angeles Museum of Art [LACMA], LA

September 13th, 2012 by Aaron

The curators at LACMA found this Avanti to be an appropriate piece of period correct eye candy to compliment their exhibit “California Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way,” the first major study of modern California design. As reported on by our pal Phil Patton at the NY Times, “the curators included the car because it echoed a spirit in design and lifestyle also seen in the furniture, lighting, product and fashion items in the show”

We have spotted Avantis before but never one parked on shag carpet. Awesome!

  • I just rolled up next to one of these the other day (in Portland, OR) and it kind of blew my mind. I saw the Avanti name, but forgot to check the maker until I saw this one come up in my feed. What an amazing and unlikely car!

  • Believe it or not I dreamed about owning one of these 20 years ago, you brought back some memories. Thanks 🙂
