Pictured Above: Finn McMissile, one of the stars of Pixar’s upcoming blockbuster Cars 2, hitting theaters this summer
Earlier this month, Mattel, Hasbro, and Lego previewed a boat load of toys planned to support Cars 2 at Pier 60 in Chelsea. As you can tell from the photos, they pulled out all the stops and even had a full size replica of Finn McMissile, the dashing British sports car being voiced over by the equally spy-tastic Michael Caine in the upcoming film. The car is obviously inspired by Aston’s iconic DB5, the model so beloved by 007, although it also seems to also pay homage to the equally handsome BMW 507.
Pixar, whose average international gross per film is more than $550 million, walked away with 2 Oscars on Sunday night for Toy Story 3, one for original song and the other for animated feature. If that’s not impressive enough, the flock of talking toys was also nominated for 3 more academy awards…best picture, sound editing and writing (adapted screenplay). The film house collected 27 Academy Awards for their nearly 9 feature length animated films produced since the original Toy Story hit screens in 1995. Not too shabby huh?
Based on the level of cool and appeal toward car enthusiasts we’re seeing with Cars 2, the top brass at Pixar should start getting their acceptance speeches ready for Oscars 2011. If you ask us, Finn McMissile should go up to the recieve the award.
Thanks for the great tips and commentary Omar!
