Seen here rotting away peacefully in my uncle’s Long Island backyard, this early 1950s GMC fire truck won’t be rushing to the scene of any burning buildings in the near future. The formerly bright red sheet metal is so weak and weathered that you can almost poke your finger through it. The trees have practically planted roots into the damn chassis. And yet this old rig has always served as a pleasant piece of eye candy at countless family BBQs and outdoor celebrations. I wonder how long it will take for big red to turn into lawn mulch? Hey, if Sun Chips can do it, why not GMC.
