Rolls Royce Phantom Hybrid? – East 65th Street, NYC

July 14th, 2009 by Ian

We couldn’t help but notice the Hybrid badges on this $380,000+ Phantom EWB rolling around the Upper East Side. The driver told us the one-of-a-kind Hybrid Phantom is a prototype that was generously loaned to his VIP client, by Rolls Royce, for everyday use. While this field testing technique is not unheard of, and there is talk of an EV, we are suspect of the big green badge, which is identical to the one General Motors places on all their plebeian hybrids. You would think a unique badge would be fitting for such a lavish engineering effort. phantom-hybrid-22phantom-hybrid-32

  • Thanks for sharing such great post, according to me the Rolls Royce Phantom has a perfectly divine combination of uniquely imposing looks and presence with the sumptuous interiors. The Rolls Royce may appear traditional but it is definitely a modern performer.

  • Hey Stu!

This isn’t just any Hybrid Phantom but this is an extended wheelbase version called the Phantom EWB. Funny what the owner did to the car. There is a Ferrari F50 in Jersey which the owner put the plague “Plymoth” on the back on his car which is supposedly an inside joke.

  • Hey Evan – the question is, is it really a hybrid or is this guy blowing smoke?

  • Great spot guys and way to make Autoblog !

  • [...] There was an interesting attempt at salving someone’s conscience recently. You see, a Rolls Royce Phantom was spotted running around New York sporting a set of new additions. [...]

  • I saw this last night by Broadway and 21st. I was waiting on a street corner to cross when that drove by and I couldn’t stop staring.

  • hey Marcus – great sighting – snap one for us next time -

  • I am Brazilian living in Rio de Janeiro and I had the pleasure to see this car at the SoHo in New York on February 2009. It’s just amazing! I’ve been searching for pictures of this car for so long.Thank you for sharing those.
