We all love Targas for the non committal reverence they pay to open top motoring. The best of both worlds indeed, a handsome coupe when you need it and the wind rushing through your hair when you don’t. Nobody loves Targas more than our friends at Porsche, who were clever enough to trademark the name (even though Triumph did it first with the ’61 TR4) so that competing manufacturers would be forced to pen alternative monikers for their own coupe meets cabrio roof set-up. And since removable roof panels seem somewhat crude for today’s Porsche elite, the 911 Targa has morphed into an extra-large glass moonroof that can retract at any speed, exposing occupants to 4.8 square feet of sky. This lovely Basalt Black Metallic ($710) example looks good on Mercer Street sporting 19″ Carrera Classic Wheels ($,1940).
